Kamal’s work shop huge success

Stars draw attention and that was precisely what they did on Thursday at a function organised to mark the inauguration of the Chennai International Screenwriting workshop at IIT. A large number of media personnel turned up at the event, which was attended by a host of stars including Kamal Haasan and Balu Mahendra. 

In fact, so many journalists turned up for the event that a few of the academics, including Idichandy, the dean of students, were stunned. A visibly impressed Idichandy said, “Frankly, I’m a little nervous. It is for the first time that I’m seeing such a big gathering of media personnel here.” On a lighter vein, he remarked that he wasn’t sure if he’d see such a big gathering of the media if one of the professors at the IIT were awarded a Nobel prize.

Sexy Hamsa on Nayan and Anushka way

After Nayanthara and Anushka, it’s now the turn of Hamsa Nandini to learn martial arts.  “I had to master all those kicks and punches,” she says. The actress of Adinetha fame also mastered art of the ‘sword-fighting’ for her future roles. 

After learning the tricks of the trade, the actress desires to do more ‘action’ roles. The Pune-based actress is also learning Telugu for a longer stint in Tollywood. “I’ll sign a couple of Telugu films soon,” she signs off.

Nayan enjoying her privacy

Nayanthara has been trying to keep a low profile. But controversies and Nayan go hand-in-hand. Nayanthara’s love for temples is well known. She makes it a point to visit all the famous temples near locations where she is shooting which makes news. Recently, she did a Thulabharam (a ritual of weighing oneself against offerings made to the temple) at the famous Chettikulangara Devi temple in Mavelikkara near Alleppy in Kerala. And a month later, Nayan went for darshan at the Mannaserry Killikavu temple near Ottapalam, in Kerala dressed in a salwar-kameez. But the protocol at this Bhagavathy (Amman) temple is that women should wear sari to enter the premises, which she was not aware of. Her dress has irked a group of local members of the saffron brigade. 

 

“I’m trying my best to be non controversial, but at times, for no fault of mine, I get dragged into unnecessary controversies. I grew up in an army garrison as my father was in the air force. There, a temple, church and mosque were all situated in the same compound. So from my childhood, I used to pray at all places of worship. Now, when I shoot near a famous temple anywhere in India, I make it a point to visit the place,” reasons the actress. She feels that she is fighting the battles of a lone lady without the paraphernalia of parents, managers and relatives as she takes decisions on her own. For the last six months, the actress has vanished from the party circuit and avoids film functions, preferring to keep to herself. “Actually I don’t miss anybody. I enjoy my privacy as I’m able to concentrate more on my career,” says the actress. 

 

For now, the actress is sailing on calm waters. She is upbeat about K S Ravikumar’s Aadhavan with Surya and two Telugu films — one with NTR and the other with Ravi Teja. She says, “I know success doesn’t last forever in tinsel town. It is not possible to remain at the top permanently, as a lot of fresh talents are coming up every day. You cannot brood over it. That’s the way the system functions.” Finally, she concludes, “My hands are full for the year with four films in three languages. Right now, I’m enjoying every moment of it.

While Genelia  and Ritesh Deshmukh have been linked ever since they starred together in their debut film Tujhe Meri Kasam (2003), they have never admitted that they are romantically involved. On May 25, fact that they were seen together at Karan Johar’s birthday party only added fuel to the fire. Genelia who still maintains a ‘we are only good friends’ stand with Ritesh is amused as well as exasperated on being linked with him.

 

When asked about being seen with Ritesh at Karan Johar’s party, Genelia says, “Ritesh and I had gone there separately. Yes, we met up there and spent some time together. But does that mean we’re seeing each other? We’ve known each other since 2003 when we starred together in our debut film. Back then we were newcomers shooting far away from home in Hyderabad. Naturally, we bonded. I’m also friends with Ritesh’s brother but no one talks about that because he’s not part of the entertainment industry. As of now, I am only friends with Ritesh but if our relationship goes to another level, we’ll announce it proudly.

‘Kavya’s Diary’ ready for release on June 5

Charmme is playing the main role, while Manjuna and Shashank are playing the other lead roles in ‘Kavya’s Diary’ directed by VK Prakash and produced by Sanjay Swaroop on the banner ofIndira Productions. The film is getting ready for release on June 5. Speaking on the occasion, Manjula says, ‘The entire film would have human relations in its backdrop. The audiences could find the other angle in the performance of Charmme. There won’t be any similarities in her character that runs in the first and second halves of the movie. The audiences would be wondered at her performance and change in body language of Charmme. Another important point in the film is — What Kavya wrote in the diary and what happened after that. What were the repercussions of her writing is the crux of the movie. ‘Kalavaramaye Madilo’ Movie in final stages

Shooting and other post-production formalities were completed for ‘Kalavaramaye Madilo…’ directed by Satish Kasetti and produced by Mohan Vadlapatla on the banner of Mohan Media Creations with Kamal Kamaraju and Swati in the lead. DTS mixing works remained balance for the movie. Speaking on the occasion, the producer says, ‘We canned two duets on Kamal and Swati from May 14 to 20 at Kerala.

A song, ‘Neelo Anuvananta Premunnna…’ rendered by Chitra and Roshan was shot at Alleppey Beach with the backwaters in its backdrop, while ‘O nee nee… O Neevaneee… Oka Teeray….’ rendered by Hariharan and Kalpana was choreographed at Munnar Tea Estates. Vanamali penned both the lyrics, while Ganesh Karthik handled the camera. We have plans to launch the audio by May-end and release the film in June first half. We are very happy to introduce popular Bollywood actor Vikram Gokhale to the Telugu film industry through this film. Prabhu Deva, he disclosed how he chose to become initially as a choreographer in the film industry.

He said he was not good in education and did not have much options in choose to pick a career for him. He is a big fan of Michael Jackson and his father being a choreographer it became one of the desired career.

Currently he is busy in directing the movies, but Prabhu says his passion and liking is towards choreography. Prabhu Deva is son of popular dance master Sundaram and his brother Raju Sundaram is also a reputed choreographer.

"We had to hold audience interest with our performances and we did it," says the actress, who played a responsible girl in the film. She also falls in love with a stranger in a 15-day period. But is this realistic? "I have known friends who have proposed within just two days of knowing one another, so love can happen anytime," reasons this MA Sociology student. 
 
Wasn't it a gamble to begin with a 'performance-oriented' role in glam-struck Tollywood? "I was determined to start this way and now I have proved a point that it is possible. I am also not totally averse to glamourous roles," says the actress, who likes to tread the same path of Soundarya and Sneha and is happy about indigenous girls surging ahead in Tollywood. The actress who did a brief stint on the small screen, says, "I did anchoring for a short period and took a 2-year break for the big screen offer."  The actress makes it clear that she has very few friends and there's no 'special person in her life. She says, "My first love is shopping and if I like anything I just buy it at any cost!" she giggles.

Navdeep fell for snake sound

Navadeep acted as a hero in the films Gautham SSC, Chandama, etc. On hearing the hissing sound of the snake he fell unconscious on the ground. Recently he participated the shooting of the film “Yagam” at Bangkok.

In that shooting Navadeep had to kiss a snake in one of the scene. To give an original look to the scene, he intended to take the risk and do this adventure. People in Bangkok treat this act as a game (i.e. kissing of snake). They even bet on this adventure. On seeing this Navadeep thought that he would also be able to do this adventure and stood in front of the Cobra.

The Cobra on seeing the lights in front of it and crowded unit members, might be scared and jumped on to the shoulder of Navadeep with a hissing sound. On this suddenly happened event, youth hero Navadeep fell down unconscious due to fear. Later the snake charmer came and woke up Navadeep by sprinkling some water on his face and told the unit members that there is nothing to be scared as Navadeep is fine. Everyone in the unit advised him, not to do such adventures thinking it to be realistic.

Navadeep decided not to do such adventures any more and he humorously spoke as “I would have gone to the other industry (Above Lokas) by this time, if the snake would have bit me.”

Nikita, though not having any movies in Telugu, she is busy in Kannada Film Industry. The reason for this is that, her recently released film “Dubai Babu” scored her good marks. The fresh news is that, Nikita agreed to do an item song in Malyalam pairing with Mammutti. Initially Padma Priya agreed to do this item song, but due to dates problem, she dropped out in the last minute. Till now Nikita has done three Malyalam movies. So her face has become familiar for the Malyalam audiences. But the unfortunate thing is that all the three Malyalam movies in which Nikita acted were not successful and so she did not get any further chances. Her last movie was in the year 2005 and after four years she is coming in front of the Keralities through this item song for entertaining them. The name of the movie is “Daddy Cool”. In this Mammutti will be playing the role of hero and Richa Pallod will be the heroine. Richa has been introduced to the Telugu Film Industry through the movie “Nuvve Kavali” and did few movies in telugu.

Neetu Chandra in Vishal’s next

Actor Vishal, who has been trying hard to cast a North Indian heroine to play a role in his Theeradha Vilayaatu Pillai, can now heave a sigh of relief. He finally has found a heroine, who is none other than the girl who played Priya, Madhavan’s wife in his horror flick, Neetu Chandra.

Neetu Chandra, the actress who has played important roles in films like Traffic signal and Playing Guest, has been approached by Vishal to play one of the three heroines in director Thiru’s Theeradha Vilayaatu Pillai. The film features Vishal as a Casanova flanked by three heroines, of which only Shriya Saran has been confirmed.

For the role that Neetu has been offered, Vishal had originally wanted to cast Bipasha Basu, whose only Tamil film so far remains Vijay’s Sachien. But the actress politely declined the role as she had other commitments till the end of next year. The role was then offered to Tanushri Dutta, and has finally been bagged by Neetu Chandra. The actress is yet to sign the dotted line but it is learnt that she has a bold role to play in the film

Pista movie review Pista' Review: No Freshness At All

Let us see how far the film stood up to expectations Story: Murali Krishna (Vishal), rough and tough young man from the village Ramachandrapuram comes to Vizag in search of his elder brother who runs away from home in childhood. His wish is to make his mother happy by bringing back her elder son. In the process, he happens to develop a tug with two gangsters Guru (Kishore) and Surya Prakash (Prakash Raj). The typical action drama continues till the last and if Murali Krishna found his brother has to be watched on screen. It is not something special to say that Indu (Shriya) is the lady love for Murali Krishna and there is nothing big to portray for her other than this. Performances: Vishal with his rugged look once again portrayed in mass action flick. All his histrionics, the choice of subject, the way he presented himself looked obsolete. His voice base and punch while delivering heavy dialogues are to be improved. Vishal needs to try something new to make a stride. For him the action film/mass flick happens to be just a few fights, songs and heavy packed climax. He has to come out from that shell and try for newness. Shriya has shown enough of oomph and that worked well on screen. Prakash Raj is at his best as a gangster. He justified his role. Kishore as another gangster is also ok. Ali’s comedy is good but KrishnaBhagawan failed to spill laughs with his weak track. Tanikella Bharani, the senior artiste with good élan, has diminished himself as a side kick for villain. He wouldn’t have zeroed in on that not-so-prominent role. Action episodes are also outdated. Music is just average. The film is lacking freshness and the director is solely responsible for that. The production values are good but the subject matter is weak. Analysis: It appears to be a dubbed version with first look, watching Vishal on screen, but since it’s bilingual, the nativity is not missed in many frames. All the songs except ‘Pattuko Pattuko…’ were shot with Telugu lyrics and majority of scenes were also canned in Telugu that brought a perfect lip sync of artistes. The padding artistes also brought nativity feel for audiences. First half of the film runs with time pass scenes and there will be no big movement in story line. The real story begins only with interval twist and second half. The conclusion is as expected and hence the last 15 minutes will not be that exciting for audiences. The plight of this film depends on the patronage of mass audiences and the posters with glamorous Shriya may help to some extent. The film may run only with artificial boost up and heavy publicity but not with material in it.

He is on his way to Singapore from Malaysia on holidays but then his life takes a turn when he bumps across Harika (harika), one of the passengers in the airport who is on her way to India to meet her prospective husband. While Dhruv is more of a carefree guy who doesn't plan much, Harika is quite the opposite. However, cupid strikes Dhruv in one shot and he decides that Harika is the one for him. From then on, he begins to put his efforts on getting to know Harika, making friends with her and finally confessing his love for her. The problem for him is time since Harika's flight leaves in about two hours and he may not be able to see her for the rest of his life. What does he do and whether he is successful or not forms the rest of the story. Presentation: The director has come up with a wafer thin storyline and he had to rely on the presentation which was neat and the narration which was not having gravity. The dialogues were okay, the script was written without any hitches but the plot was too weak. Screenplay had a key role to play in this but then there were many drag moments. Music was alright and one song made sense. Cinematography was justified and editing was needed at some key places to avoid boredom. Costumes were top notch and other departments need no mention here. Manchu Manoj had to shoulder the entire film and though he looks good, he needs to work on his expressions and the soft side of emotions are not being seen in him, he looked a bit impish in few scenes here. Asano in Chennai for 19th Step

Directed by Bharat Bala and produced by Walt Disney, the 19th Step will soon go on floors. Tadanobu Asano, the Japanese actor who plays a significant role in the film, is in Chennai to be a part of the photo shoot. He will be joined by Asin, who is expected to fly down from Mumbai and the film’s shooting will soon start after Kamal Haasan completes Unnai Pol Oruvan.

The Japanese actor plays a warrior who comes to India to learn the ancient martial art form Kalaripayattu from Asin. Asin essays the role of an Indian princess. The story is written by M.T. Vasudevan Nair, who aims to trace the origin of the ancient martial art form in India.

Asano will leave for Kerala by end of this week, to explore further and also finalize the costumes. The photo shoot will be without Kamal Haasan for now. But, he will soon join the rest of the cast in September as he plays the role of a martial arts guru.
