Film: PRAYANAM Rating: 2/5 Banner: Aryaki Arts Cast: Manchu Manoj, Harika, Brahmanandam, Janardhan, Daniel etc Music: Mahesh Shankar Cinematography: Sarvesh Murari Director: Chandrasekhar Yeleti Producer: Sita Yeleti Release Date: May 29, 2009 Story: A different story with dull pace, the tale begins on the backdrop of the Kuala Lumpur airport where Dhruv (manoj) arrives with his friends Kailash (janardhan) and Raman. He is on his way to Singapore from Malaysia on holidays but then his life takes a turn when he bumps across Harika (harika), one of the passengers in the airport who is on her way to India to meet her prospective husband. While Dhruv is more of a carefree guy who doesn't plan much, Harika is quite the opposite. However, cupid strikes Dhruv in one shot and he decides that Harika is the one for him. From then on, he begins to put his efforts on getting to know Harika, making friends with her and finally confessing his love for her. The problem for him is time since Harika's flight leaves in about two hours and he may not be able to see her for the rest of his life. What does he do and whether he is successful or not forms the rest of the story. Presentation: The director has come up with a wafer thin storyline and he had to rely on the presentation which was neat and the narration which was not having gravity. The dialogues were okay, the script was written without any hitches but the plot was too weak. Screenplay had a key role to play in this but then there were many drag moments. Music was alright and one song made sense. Cinematography was justified and editing was needed at some key places to avoid boredom. Costumes were top notch and other departments need no mention here. Manchu Manoj had to shoulder the entire film and though he looks good, he needs to work on his expressions and the soft side of emotions are not being seen in him, he looked a bit impish in few scenes here. Harika was sweet and her eyes had the magic though she was not that pretty. Manoj's friends and Harika's friend were the relief providers with their acts and dialogues. Brahmanandam's role was weak and he did not have much to do. Daniel came and went. Conclusion: The film must be appreciated for the different approach it took but then what is more important is the message about love at first sight and that moment has to touch the audience correctly. While that did not happen the first half was busy with the hero following the heroine and the second half is about whether he is successful or not. The pace of the movie is quite slow and there were many drag moments. Overall, the film will appeal to the youth audience a bit but then it has fallen flat due to the lack of many funny moments and the weak romantic sequences |

Film: KICK
Rating: 3/5
Banner: R R Movie Makers
Cast: Ravi Teja, Ileana, Shaam, Ashika, Kota, Venu Madhav, Brahmanandam, Sayaji Shinde, Ali, Jayaprakash Reddy, Banerjee, Chalapathi Rao etc
Music: S Thaman
Cinematography: Rasool Ellore
Director: Surender Reddy
Producer: Venkat
Release Date: May 08, 2009
Story:
A well knit tale, the story begins with Kalyan (Ravi Teja) a guy who loves challenges and cannot live without getting a 'kick' out of doing things. He falls in love with Naina (Ileana) but then she leaves him since Kalyan takes up jobs and keeps leaving them. He also gets the support of his father (Sayaji) in this. Naina goes to Malaysia and there she gets the alliance of the tough cop Kalyan Krishna (shaam). However, Kalyan Krishna comes there on a mission. He is there to catch a notorious thief who has been stealing money from the rich people in India and has got away with it. Meanwhile, Kalyan also comes to Malaysia and he stages a drama which confuses Halwaraj (Brahmi), Naina and others. Why does he do that? What is the motive of Kalyan and how does he get his 'kick'? All this forms the rest of the story.
Presentation:
The director has come up with a thoughtful storyline and though the presentation was neat, the narrative could have been better. The dialogues were good, the script was written neatly and the screenplay was effective. Background score was good but all songs did not have energy, melody content was high on them. Cinematography was impressive, editing was crisp, costumes were perfect and the art department did their job to the standard. Ravi Teja was the energy for the film and his expressions and acting have brought him back to form. Ileana was mind blowing and she looked really delicious after putting on weight. Shaam looked handsome but he could have worked more on his expressions, Ashika was alright, Brahmanandam was excellent, Sayaji was regular, Ali managed few laughs, the others like Banerjee, Chalapathi Rao, Kota came and went.
Conclusion:
The film has got all the ingredients for a masala movie and then there was tinge of thriller element in it. However, the makers should have worked on the tempo of the film to make it more gripping. The first half does not have any idle moment and passes off peacefully. The second half gets very slow and it not until sometime that the story picks up again and culminates into a neat climax. Technically, the film has been made well but it could have worked more on the intense scenes and also on the pace. Overall, this is a good one to run at box office since there are no other movies in sight now.
The Film
This is s mindless film of concocted incidents with a generous sprinkling of the so-called masala elements at random in the name of mass entertainment.
The Synopsis
Drona (master Sai Krishna) plays with his friends with the revolver of his father (Mukesh Rishi) a committed police officer, who bashes his son for this dangerous game. Drona disappears from the house leaving his mother (Seetha) as a weeping wreck.
Drona (Nitin) comes back to his home after ten years. Though he knows his parents, they do not know him to be their son. He gets friendly with the neighbouring girl (Priyamani) who knows his real identity and the fact that he is now a trained thief.
Later it is revealed that young Drona did not runaway from home but kidnapped by underworld kingpin (Kelly Dorjee) who is in the business of training children to make them thieves.
How the hero deals with the villain forms the rest of the film culminating in a predictable climax.
The Performances
It is high time that Nitin realizes that acting is not within the purview of his skills. Priyamani, a national award winner for acting, has nothing much to do except liberally exposing her female assets. Mukhesh Rishi, Seetha and Dorjee are adequate in their roles. Sunil and Venu Madhav look lackluster.
The Techniques
Too many cooked up incidents give a touch of irrelevance to the narration of the story. The screenplay has its own loopholes and suffers from predictability. The treatment appears to be based on the routine of three fights and six songs, a flashback and a few ridiculous scenes thrown in to fill the gaps.
All the technical departments functioned at below par effectiveness. It will be best for the director to hone his skills better before he ventures to direct his next project.
The Verdict
Drona is an unexpected assault on the senses and an unpardonable insult to the intelligence of the audience. This is a worth-a-miss film.

The film 'Fitting Master' released today as Sankranthi special filling the senses of movie lovers with lots of smile-expectations. Let us see how far it reached the hopes.
Story:
Sampath (Allari Naresh) is an orphan who works in a gym center. He hates love between a young man and young girl and keeps on opposing that in public. This catches the attention of an arrogant rich girl Meghna (Madalasa Sharma) who challenges her friends that she could pull him in love and make him a puppet around her. Her attempts fail all the while. Then she falls in his love in real. But still he denies her. Then Meghna takes the help of her brother to convince Sampath. In a surprising incident when Meghna's brother approaches Sampath, latter kills the former. Why he killed? What are his motives? That forms the rest of the story. It ended up as an age old revenge drama.
Performances:
Allari Naresh didn't leave his trade mark style of dialogue delivery and instant punches but since the film happened to be a serious flick, the scope for humor is less. But Naresh got a scope to portray seriousness and revenge this time.
Madalasa Sharma is like any other Mumbai girl. She has delivered average performance. She is there for glamour in full dose indeed.
Chandra Mohan and Sudha are there for melodrama and Saira Banu is there for a long pathetic episode. Sayaji Shinde maintained mannerism of singing songs from old films as per situation.
Others are just ok. Music is above average a couple of songs 'Tappusodara..', 'Vennelavo..' really pleased the ears.
Dialogues by Tadi Balaram and Satish Vegesna are apt and rightly grooved in.
Appearance of lyricist Vanamali before a song in his real-time character is interesting.
EVV has chosen an outdated narration, although the subject is universal.
Analysis:
It's like tasting sour in the name of sweet. The title 'Fitting Master' with Allari Naresh in it would obviously give an impression that it is an out and out comedy entertainer. But it is not so. It's blended with melodrama, weeps, shouts, fights and all sorts of ingredients that a serious film possesses. Although the maker of the movie attempted to give a message to today's youth those are falling in love and marrying without the consent of parents, the title and expectation didn't match. It is true that audiences those love to laugh on the occasion of festival will walk into theatres to watch this film. But they will be disappointed for watching a serious movie with scattered comedy.
And it is not a film for Allari Naresh, at this juncture. Although EVV tried to bring an image make over for Naresh, this film didn't serve the purpose as it's made with obsolete content.
The film may get some initial mileage in B, C centers but on a whole it cannot be considered a wholesome entertainer.

Although this time of the year is for Tollywood to shake the Box Office, it seems that like the New Year, Sankranti too is going to be a low-key affair, going by the fact that there are no big star releases this year.
