Get ready for sexy villains

A couple of years ago, Tollywood’s leading ladies were unwilling to let go off their goody two shoes image, even at the risk of repeating themselves. Now the situation seems to be slowly but steadily changing as more and more leading ladies seem willing to shed their inhibitions and experiment with roles that portray them in negative light. Tollywood screen scorchers Charmme, Mamta Mohandas, Bhumika Chawla and Priyamani are playing bad girls on screen and are enjoying having the spotlight on them too. Charmme shows off her dark side in 'Kavya’s Diary,' which she claims is her 'maiden role with negative shades.' The cherubic star who rose to fame with positive roles in 'Anukokunda Oka Roju and Mantra' is also apprehensive about her new role play as she says, “I am doing something different and hope the audience doesn’t hate me.” But Mamta Mohandass doesn’t seem to have any such worries and has just wrapped up 'King' in which she plays a ruthless killer. She shoots down the male lead (Nagarjuna) and confirms his death, before walking away. She adds that she's ready for some more performance oriented negative roles. Now another young star Priyamani and aunty Bhumika joined this bad girl brigade with a negative role in 'Raavan and Yaagam' respectively. 'I took it up because the role sounded interesting,' says Priyamani. Was it a tough act? “It was one of the easiest roles I’ve done,” avers Priyamani. But Bhumika sounds different. She says, 'Essaying a negative role is a tough call for any actress, but I enjoyed it really well.' However, when the late Soundarya, who was the epitome of bharatiya womanhood on screen, played a scheming girl in 'Manasista Raa,' the audience rejected it outright. Let's see, how audience will accept these sexy bad girls.
