Film star Krishna’s elder son, Mr G. Ramesh Babu, was arrested by Income Tax officials in a default case. Mr Ramesh Babu, director of Padmalaya Enterprises and brother of Mahesh Babu, had defaulted payment of income tax worth Rs. 1.5 crore three years ago. IT officials arrested him after getting relevant orders from the Income Tax Tribunal.
“He will be produced in court within 24 hours by the tax recovery officer,” said Mr Shakir Hussain, additional commissioner of the Income Tax department. However, in IT cases, the ‘arrest’ is technical and not physical. The person arrested has to appear before the IT Tribunal within 24 hours.
